Fanø is a little island off the south-west coast of Denmark about 12 minutes away from the mainland by boat and though the North Sea might not summon tropical vistas the west coast of the island is one long sandy beach.
And in July it’s home to Fanø Free Folk Festival.
The organisers say:
“Fanø Free Folk Festival has existed since 2010 with a strong focus on presenting experimental folk music in intimate surroundings on the beautiful island Fanø in the south-west of Denmark.”
“The festival is entirely volunteer-driven and focus on a community feeling. We encourage new meetings and collaborations between musicians from all over the world and often present site-specific performances using existing and unique spaces in the village of Sønderho, working with field recordings or going into dialogue with the surrounding nature of the Wadden Sea, which was recently added to the Unesco World Heritage List.”
